Attorney James Spence constructed this building as an ornate mansion to serve as his primary residence in 1897. At the time, Prospect Avenue was known as The Gold Coast, and this building had an unobstructed view of Lake Michigan. Over the years, various owners made cosmetic modifications to the interior and exterior of the building which resulted in the loss of some of its fine architectural detail.
We acquired the building in 2002 and completely renovated all three floors. The purpose of our renovations was to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for our staff and clients while restoring architectural detail to the specifications that existed when the building was initially constructed. The building has now been restored to much of its historic splendor.
